Travelling with the divine feminine

September 2014

A script writer with an art and cultural centre met a journalist infected with the travel bug and The Wanderers was born. The Delhi-based duo of Mohit Gupta and Smriti Sharma bid adieu to their nine-to-five life to live freely and learn freely. They conceived the idea of a woman’s only travel group which consisted of retreats in exotic places with self-growth and enlightenment included in the itinerary.

“Our story revolves around chasing dreams, walking in the rain, creating memories, and being okay with getting scared,” says Smriti, who left her job with the PR department of a Gurgaon-based hospital to nurture this baby. She is passionate about travelling, and Mohit about organising spiritual workshops. “We decided to combine the two to offer something unique. A blend of travelling to exquisite destinations and self-help programmes on wellness, healing, and meditation was something very fascinating for us. The destinations we choose help people to fall in a silent and meditative space. This is how the idea was born,” she adds.

Only six months old, this group has already organised trips to Agra, twice for full moon meditation at Taj Mahal, sunrise meditation at Golden Temple, and dance meditation at Khajuraho temples. Their most recent trip was a retreat in Andretta, Himachal Pradesh. This delightful trip consisted of releasing negative energies and patterns, enjoying music and dance meditation, plunging into soul retrieval in Sherabling: a space with vibrations of 1,300 monks chanting and meditating daily. Doing it before a 42-feet high Buddha statue added to the charm.

On asking how they chose the destination, Mohit says that they select Power Spots around the country which emanate powerful spiritual vibrations.

Holds Smriti, “We are travellers on the path with our participants. Our travel groups are a blend of spirituality as well as exploration of offbeat destinations.”
