Practice makes perfect
Dear Reader,
How many of us have marvelled at the sheer beauty of a dancer’s skilled moves, a singer’s faultless rendition of a soulful melody, or a batsman’s perfect stroke across the boundary?
Most of us get deeply inspired by such seamless performances and start dreaming about excelling in our chosen fields and mesmerising the world with the brilliance of our talent. However, mastery over every skill, talent, or craft comes through dedicated and sustained effort. While most of us get charged like a dynamo at the onset of a project, we lose steam over time as distractions, personal worries, or boredom set in, in our lives.
Though consistency is key to mastering anything, it is difficult to maintain it. It requires plenty of self-awareness and commitment to self-improvement to get the hang of this ability. However, it can be cultivated by anyone wishing to achieve success in their endeavours. Former deputy editor of Life Positive, Punya Srivastava, has penned a thought-provoking article on this aspect of life, and I hope that you will derive value out of it.
When I had started meditating at the young age of 24, most of my peers were of the opinion that it was a pastime of the elderly, and youth was meant to enjoy and explore life. However, given the complexity of today’s zeitgeist, people are realising the benefits of meditation for all ages, including children. We have an article that answers all your questions regarding the effect of meditation on children. However, it is advisable to have them learn it from a trained meditation teacher, who knows to what extent children should be exposed to this practice. Meditation, when practised correctly, has been observed to help children concentrate better, be calmer, and more respectful towards their elders, apart from being healthier and happier.
We also have an in-depth article on the healing effect of various melodies. Music has a universal appeal and testifies to the fact that all humans are intrinsically similar to each other. Musical notes harmonise our body and mind, and specific ones can even be used to heal chronic ailments. While medical treatment must not be discounted, the help of music can be taken to mitigate suffering and expedite the process of healing.
Have a happy September.
