A kinder curriculum
Just as a poet is bestowed with the ability of expressing the most profound thoughts in just two lines, similarly editor Shivi Verma, in her Editspeak column in the March 2020 issue of the magazine, has not only diagnosed what ails the human mind, but has also offered the remedy of injecting compassion in the human race through the education system. So, in a way, she too is a poet of spiritual manifestation. We are badly missing compassion in our lives and this message needs to be communicated to the whole world. The human race is paying a heavy price for lacking compassion as explained by her, in the form of blazing bushfires, oceans submerged in plastic and animals being factory farmed and butchered to feed human greed. To this list, I would like to add violent riots too which always result in the physical and financial devastation of the innocents and the have-nots in general. Not only this, lack of compassion makes our day-to-day lives quite tense too, thus depleting our life force. Thank you Life Positive, and thank you Shivi Verma for floating an idea which can pacify the turbulence, and unrest in human life. The message of compassion needs to travel across the earth and Life Positive is the perfect vehicle for this journey. Being compassionate, and kind is the need of the hour, rather the only option left for human race to survive.

Taking India backwards
I read the article by Poornima Coontoor, The principles of a good life–Dharma, Adharma, Swadharma in the February 2020 Issue of Life Positive.
In this article it has been mentioned that according to Vedanta, your profession is based on your Varna (caste). It means that there cannot be a change in caste. This thinking will move India in the backward direction. The caste system promotes inequality. Some countries in the world like Japan are ahead of India because there is no caste system there. Indians should seriously think about their parameters.

Dear Chandraman,
Poornima Coontoor very clearly states in the same paragraph (page 36), “For us the message of Varnashram Dharma is to follow your aptitude, do what comes to you naturally, do what you are trained to do and do it with sincerity. The outcome of such an action will benefit you as well as society. That is dharma.”
She has very intelligently contextualized the varna system for the modern times, thus dispelling any fears of India going backwards by adopting Varnashram Dharma.

Awesome article
I am in awe of the article, The Cape of Compassion by Annesha Banerjee in the March 2020 issue of Life Positive. There couldn’t have been a more apt title to this wonderful article. And the reason why I’m so enthused about this topic is because I feel strongly about it.
Compassion is truly the only cape we are left with in this bizarre world of ours. Kids these days, imitate adults who are busy in their materialistic pursuits. If not that, then they are more concerned about how they appear to others rather than who they really are. So, including kindness, empathy, and compassion for all living beings in today’s curriculum is the need of the hour.
My top three favourite moments of the article were:
• The Holocaust survivor’s eternal wisdom— which would hold true till the sun dies.
• Jan Helson, co-founder and chairman of GGC’s words, “The goal is to show students that giving back is part of who they are and not just something that they do. It then becomes a true, integral part of them and a foundation for their lives to come.”
• Today, we are worried about the kind of planet we’re leaving for our children. But it’s also time for us to think about the kind of children we will be leaving for our planet.
And what really helped was the crisp yet fascinating, to-the-point writing style of Miss Banerjee; the transitions were pretty smooth.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this thought-provoking article and want to sincerely thank everyone who made it possible.

Corrigendum
In the article Astrological cure for depression, in the March 2020 issue of Life Positive, it was erroneously mentioned that Sohini Shastri is the recipient of Bharat Ratna by the 13th President of India, Sri Pranab Mukherjee. The error is regretted.
