I have had the privilege of being associated with Life Positive since 2000, when it was a young magazine, still trying to find its feet in a new and emerging area.
At that time Mr. D R Kaarthikeyan, a highly respected colleague in the civil service, who was President of Life Positive, asked me to join the Advisory Board. I was delighted, mainly because of my great regard and respect for Mr. Karthikeyan and his uncanny ability to blend spirituality with Public Service. After joining the Board, I had the good fortune of closely associating with people like Aditya Ahluwalia, Suma Varughese, Jamuna Rangachari, and a host of others. Suma, as an editor, became a valued friend whom you could always consult for advice.
For me the greatest asset of Life Positive is its non-judgmental nature. The articles and interviews are always balanced without giving room to controversies. It is left to the reader to interpret and use the information in a way that improves the quality of his life. To publish a magazine on spiritual topics every month and satisfy discriminating readers is indeed a challenging task. Each edition brings us interviews with religious and spiritual leaders, indepth articles on health, healing, and work-life balance. It is a joy to receive my copy every month and, more importantly, share it with friends. Some articles, some people and some events always touch a chord with the readers. Let me recall some of the most memorable people I have met through LP over the years.
One of them has been Master Tan Soo Kong, a Chinese practitioner of Qigong – a very simple but powerful Chinese healing technique that uses our internal energy. Master Tan Soo Kong has been working with the Swami RamaYoga centre in the Himalayas to blend the traditional yoga with Qigong. In one of the Life Positive Expos in Delhi, he gave a lecdem on this technique which was greatly appreciated. I had the privilege of visiting his Qigong healing center in Kula Lumpur where he runs a large number of healing programmes.
I also had the privilege of meeting, along with Suma Varughese, Deepa Kodikal, a simple, unassuming lady with great inner strength and wisdom. She had presented me one of her books, Teachings of the Inner Light, which is a blueprint for right living.
Jaya Row is another remarkable lady who, after a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry, decided to pursue Vedanta and spread its teachings in India and abroad. Her discourses on the Bhagavad Gita are simple yet enlightening and she has been a popular speaker at the Life Positive expos.
Kala Karthikeyan, the late wife of our President, was a gentle and noble soul, who had mastered the Art of Living programmes as a senior teacher. She had used various Art of Living techniques such as the Sudarshan Kriya for healing people in stress. It was a privilege to meet her and enjoy her warm hospitality. Another person who comes to mind is Uma Shankar, the Sun Yogi who is truly an extraordinary person. He can live for several months without food sustaining himself only on the energy of the sun. Ketan Shah, an acupressure expert would conduct free sessions at Mr. Kaarthikeyan’s residence in Delhi. Several people benefitted from these sessions. I have been fortunate to spent some time with him and read his book on the subject.
Today in its 20th year, Life Positive is as relevant as ever and I am sure will grow from strength to strength in the coming years.
My best wishes to Aditya, Suma and the entire team of Life Positive.
