Rich Dad, Spiritual Dad
In this profit-oriented world we live in, Badal Suchak is grateful for the presence of a Spiritual Dad in his life
The book Rich Dad, Poor Dad was recommended by my friend Nithya Shanti to help me gain some financial wisdom. After having read it, when he asked me for my feedback, I said that I liked the book; there is much to learn. And I also mentioned a third dad in my life: a Spiritual Dad, who has taught me to be truthful, loving, compassionate, and to see wealth from a higher perspective. He was delighted to hear this as he is also one of my mentors and suggested I write about it.
With reverence and gratitude to Morari Bapu, my uncle, and my father, who have taught me to live meaningfully with inner richness, here are some lessons I’ve learnt. I’ve presented each point from both perspectives, that of a Rich Dad and a Spiritual Dad:
…
Rich Dad: Make sure that you do not lose a single penny in your business. Every penny is precious.
Spiritual Dad: Make sure that you do not lose your Self while making money. Your real wealth is your faith, devotion, relationships.
…
Rich Dad: Play smart! Listen to what people tell you. Know that they are just saying it. They may not mean it. They may not believe in it. They may just want you to believe it. Read between the lines. Be smart enough to gauge what they are not saying. Don’t let them take you for a ride.
Spiritual Dad: Get fooled! Listen to what people tell you. They might be trying to take you for a ride. Try to understand what their deeper need is. For some reason, they are not able to get their needs met in a straightforward manner. Have compassion. Let go. They might be indirectly asking for a favour. It might just cost you a little bit of your money or time or resources. Give it to them wholeheartedly. And don't let them feel that you've done them a favour. Play a fool knowingly, with complete awareness and compassion.

Rich Dad: Always pay yourself first.
Spiritual Dad: If anyone asks you for something and if you have it, if it is possible for you to give it, if you are capable of giving it, then give it. Be big-hearted!
***
Rich Dad: Develop an abundance mindset. Nature has everything in abundance. Think big. Open yourself to receiving abundance, success, and prosperity.
Spiritual Dad: Develop a magnanimous heart. Include everyone. Be compassionate. Nature has an abundance of resources to fulfil everyone’s needs, but not for anyone’s greed. Utilise Nature’s resources responsibly and share equitably. Ensure that no one lives in poverty. Everyone deserves at least a decent meal.
***
Rich Dad: Be on the lookout for opportunities to make a profit.
Spiritual Dad: Be on the lookout for opportunities to serve, to be helpful, and to add value in any situation and anybody’s life.
***
Rich Dad: Live life king-size.
Spiritual Dad: If it is necessary, spend. Buy things you like. Enjoy. Don’t be wasteful.
***
Rich Dad: Amass great wealth.
Spiritual Dad: There is nothing wrong in earning a lot. Work hard with ‘both your hands’ and amass great wealth. Then donate and share generously as if you’ve got ‘four hands.’
***
Rich Dad: Be a smart philanthropist. Ensure that your brand value increases with your philanthropy work. Get visibility in the media with a good PR agency. Ensure that you get tax benefits on the donated amount.
Spiritual Dad: Simply give. Do it subtly. Don’t even let your left hand know that your right hand has given. Don’t ever make the receiver feel indebted.
***
Rich Dad: Be result-oriented. Plan, strategise, have full control over the process, and ensure that the outcome of your business is abundantly fruitful.
Spiritual Dad: Do your work wholeheartedly, sincerely, skilfully, and enjoy it. Love what you do. Do what you love. Don’t be too attached to the fruit of your action. Don’t have expectations. Success is attained with higher Grace. Surrender.
