Life is like a homemade cake
A little boy is telling his Grandma how everything is going wrong: school and family problems, and severe health problems in the family. He complains about how everything is difficult. Meanwhile, Grandma is baking a cake. She asks her grandson if he would like a snack, which, of course, he does.
“Here, have some cooking oil,” she says.
“Yuck,” says the boy.
Then how about a couple of raw eggs?
“Gross, Grandma!” he replies.
“Would you prefer some flour then? Or maybe some baking soda?” she asks.
“Grandma, those are all yucky!”
To which Grandma replies, “Yes, all those things seem to taste bad all by themselves. But when they are mixed together in the right amount and the right manner, they make a delicious cake!”
She continued, “God works the same way. Many a time we wonder why he would let us go through such bad and difficult times. But God knows that when He puts these things all in His order, they always work for good! We just have to trust Him and, eventually, they will all make something wonderful!”

This, I know
• Happiness cannot be travelled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.
• Time is an equal opportunity employer. Each human being has exactly the same number of hours and minutes every day. Rich people can't buy more hours. Scientists can't invent new minutes. And you can't save time to spend it on another day. Even so, time is amazingly fair and forgiving. No matter how much time you've wasted in the past, you still have an entire tomorrow.
• Mistakes are painful when they happen, but, years later, a collection of mistakes is what is called experience.
• A dream is your creative vision for your life in the future. You must break out of your current comfort zone and become comfortable with the unfamiliar and the unknown.
• It's not who you are that holds you back; it's who you think you're not.
Inspiration
Life is a gift
Today, before you think of saying an unkind word,
Think of someone who can’t speak.
Before you complain about the taste of your food,
Think of someone who has nothing to eat.
Before you complain about your husband or wife,
Think of someone who is crying out to God for a companion.
Today, before you complain about life,
Think of someone who went too early to heaven.
Before you complain about your children,
Think of someone who desires children but they’re barren.
Before you argue about your dirty house, someone didn’t clean or sweep,
Think of the people who are living in the streets.
Before whining about the distance you drive,
Think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet.
And when you are tired and complain about your job,
Think of the unemployed, the disabled and those who wish they had your job.
And before you think of pointing the finger or condemning another,
Remember that not one of us is without sin and we all answer to one maker.
And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down,
Put a smile on your face and thank God you’re alive and still around.
Life is a gift—Live it, enjoy it, celebrate it, and fulfil it.

ONE-MINUTE WISDOM
The watchman and the lantern
An Indian village hired a night watchman to keep a check on the crime rates. The watchman would go around the streets and lanes with a square metal lantern which opened only at the front, so his face wasn’t visible. Only the watchman could see where it cast light. We are like that! Our eyes, ears and tongue are all facing outward, looking at and feeling the things of the world. But if you want to see God, turn the lamp around and look within to find the Source of all the light.
– Sri Ramakrishna
Just for laughs
Good eulogy
The pastor asks his flock, “What would you like people to say when you’re in your casket?”
One congregant says, “I’d like them to say I was a fine family man.”
Another says, “I’d like them to say I helped people.”
The third responds, “I’d like them to say, ‘Look! I think he’s moving!’ ”

Humility is not cowardice. Meekness is not weakness. Humility and meekness are indeed spiritual powers.
