TEACHING STORY
DIG DEEP WITHIN YOURSELF
Once Jalaluddin Rumi took all his disciples to a field. The disciples wondered what they were going to learn in that faraway field. When they reached the field, they saw that a farmer was digging a well in the field and had already dug eight incomplete wells. He almost seemed an insane man. The farmer would start digging a well till a few feet, wouldn’t find water, and then start digging another one. This continued, and more than half of the farmer's field was destroyed; yet, he didn't find any water.
Rumi asked his disciples, “Can you understand something from this?” His disciples didn’t answer, so he continued: “If this man had put his whole energy into only one well, he would have reached the deepest source of water long ago. But the way he is going, he will destroy his whole field. Yet, he will never be able to make a single well from which he can draw water. Even with so much effort, he is simply destroying his own land and getting more and more frustrated and disappointed. He would think that he had purchased a desert, but it is not a desert. One has to go deep to find the source of water.”
Then he turned to his disciples and asked, "Are you going to follow this insane farmer? Sometimes on one path, sometimes on another. Sometimes listening to one, sometimes listening to another, you will collect much knowledge but all that knowledge is simply junk. Because it is not going to give you the Enlightenment you were looking for. It is not going to lead you to the waters of Eternal life.”
THIS, I KNOW
ALBERT SCHWEITZER
• Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.
• Life becomes harder for us when we live for others, but it also becomes richer and happier.
• Everything deep is also simple and can be reproduced simply as long as its reference to the whole truth is maintained. But what matters is not what is witty but what is true.
• Example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the only thing.
• The only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve.
• Happiness is nothing more than good health and a bad memory.
• Do something wonderful; people may imitate it.
• The tragedy of life is what dies inside a man while he lives.
INSPIRATION
TRUE JOY
I'll be happy once I've done this certain thing.
We all say this often, not realising what it brings.
We look only to the future for our happiness,
Letting life slip through our fingers in its fullness.
Will we really feel complete when the task is done
or look back and see how we missed so much fun?
Self-consumed so we can't see anything else,
hurting those we love as well as ourselves.
So many things around us to be grateful for.
When seeking an answer, willingly open the door.
So often, others see what's in front of our face,
but we're too blind to look as we're snared in the race.
What is this life supposed to be about?
Is it money, fortune, fame, or a big house?
When speaking to a man on his dying bed,
none of these answers are what he said.
Family, love, laughter are what we should seek.
These are the precious things that keep life from being bleak.

ONE-MINUTE WISDOM
TUNE IN
“How shall I experience my oneness with Creation?”
“By listening,” said the master.
“And how am I to listen?”
“Become an ear that gives heed to every single thing the Universe is saying. The moment you hear something you yourself are saying, stop.”
—Anthony De Mello
JUST FOR LAUGHS
JESUS IS WATCHING YOU
A burglar broke into a home and was looking around. He heard a soft voice say, “Jesus is watching you.” Thinking it was just his imagination, he continued his search. Again the voice said, “Jesus is watching you.” He turned his flashlight around and saw a parrot in a cage. He asked the parrot if he was the one talking, and the parrot said, “Yes.” He asked the parrot what his name was and the parrot said, “Moses.” The burglar asked, “What kind of people would name a parrot Moses?” The parrot replied, “The same kind of people who would name their pitbull Jesus.”

Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.
