Kusum Rasala meets her guru Sri Sri Sri Guru Viswasphoorthi after going through a personal tragedy and finds that, subsequently, her life has become meaningful and complete
A successful career, a caring husband, and an adorable son; life looked complete! And then—THUD. It crashed. When my only child, the love of my life, the apple of my eye, without whom my existence was unthinkable, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia on his fourth birthday. Before we could even come to terms with this catastrophe in our life, he was gone before his fifth birthday. I had left my lucrative, much-cherished job in the Indian Air Force to be a full-time mother. Thank goodness I did so, otherwise, probably, I would have gone insane after the tragedy. Well, actually, it’s not that I didn’t!
Then the journey to the unknown path began. I wanted to live with my grief and didn’t want to feign that all was well by taking up another career. I wanted answers to questions which were surfacing every now and then. I was sinking in the ocean of grief, reliving my tragedy every single moment of my existence. So, partly to run away from the situation which was taking its toll on me (I looked like a famine victim; from 62 kg I came down to 39 kg) and partly to find the answers to my questions, I started my quest. Name any spiritual organisation in India, and I was there. Not just visiting but spending time and money, sometimes months together, trying to come to terms with my grief. In the bargain, I did some translation work, learned yoga, various meditation techniques, and so on. But in my heart of hearts, I couldn’t find solace anywhere.
The search for a guru
I was secretly looking for a guru, like Paramahansa Yogananda, who, in his book Autobiography of a Yogi, talks about having a one-on-one connection with his guru Yukteshwarji Maharaj. Furthermore, doubts had also started to creep in about the existence of God. I was riddled with guilt and self-blame, thoughts of punishment for past life karma, and blamed my husband for being a nonbeliever. I was sinking into an ocean of depression.
To cut a long story short, I decided to come back home and do whatever I could within the four walls of my house. The loss had taken its toll on my husband, too, who was a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force. He had been very understanding; he would religiously drop me at places I wanted to go to, and come and pick me up when I was done there, while continuing to handle his challenging profession. At one point in time, we both wanted to give up the householder’s life and become renunciates. But as destiny would have it, neither was the Air Force ready to leave my husband nor could I settle down to a place where I could find peace. On top of it, my mother-in-law put a condition that whatever we do, we have to promise her that we both do it together.
Your grief can be exploited for someone else’s selfish motives. Out there is a huge commercial market comprising gurus, babas, and matajees, making money out of people who have lost all hope, self-confidence, and decision-making abilities. They become the perfect targets for these kinds of wolves in sheep’s clothing. Some places, the so-called abodes of God, make you pay through your nose for mere speculation in the name of past life regression, spiritual healing, and psychiatric treatments, where one session costs you so much that you have to rethink whether to go there or not. In our country, grief sells like hotcakes, and people make money out of these helpless situations. This is the sad scenario I had to face in many places.
Finding the ‘one’
Many spiritual organisations are running like any other commercial venture, without the presence of an enlightened master. Some of them demean the householder, some are religion-based, and some glorify the sannyasins (monks). There is no concrete evidence, and things move on blind faith. But as luck would have it, on returning home after living like a mendicant for almost two and a half years, a chance encounter planned by our dear friend on her son’s birthday brought us to a divine soul, which changed the course of our life. A gynaecologist by profession, she spoke about a living master in the very town where I lived, just half an hour’s drive from my home. Look at me; after 15 years of living in this town after marriage, I hadn’t known about this place! So, as it is said, when the time is ripe, the guru arrives.
I must emphasise that when it comes to our materialistic needs, if we don’t like something in one shop we look for it in 10 others, or if we don’t like food in one restaurant, we don’t give up eating outside. But when it comes to our spiritual needs, we become rigid. Without analysing or experiencing, hundreds of us feel that all gurus are frauds. But in our case, as the call was divine, it pulled us, and we met our master His Holiness Sri Sri Sri Guru Viswasphoorthi.
Having been to many places, I immediately fell in love with the simplicity of the place. Nobody was discriminated against, there were no VIPs, and no money was involved. Whether you were a person selling coconuts in the street or a minister, everybody had to maintain the same protocol. When your turn came, you were one-on-one with Sri Guruji. I felt I had arrived home in my heart. He told me to practise the process of Prasthan Dhayana, i.e., asana, pranayama, and meditation, after learning it from one of the volunteers. I was obsessed: for almost two and a half years, I was diligent about my sadhana (spiritual practice), getting up at three a.m. in the morning, doing the whole process, and practising ascension. Life became miraculous since the time Guruji entered our life. I felt anchored and nourished with a higher purpose in life. My sadhana took away a lot of negativity and brought peace, joy, and happiness to my life.
Blessed with a baby boy
Guruji never asked me and neither could I tell him about my loss, but in 2009, after almost two and a half years, he told my gynaecologist friend that my first delivery happened 10 years back and to look at my fallopian tubes. He also told me that very soon, he would give us a child. By then, I was 39, and we both had decided not to have children. But as His Grace would have it, I delivered a baby boy on the morning of July 25, 2010. That day happened to be Guru Purnima and also the birthday of my first son. It was the biggest life-changing miracle in my life. Our son, Sri Viswasphoorthi, had arrived.
And now, the most surprising thing in this whole saga—it’s been 12 years since we met Guruji, but we haven’t seen him physically as yet! His Holiness Sri Sri Sri Guru Viswasphoorthi is 80 years old. He is the intuited form of nature who evolved himself with the wisdom of ancient cultural temperament encapsulated in scientific outlook, which as a human conscience coronated him as a scientific saint, who has integrated science and spirituality. Sri Gurujee says, “Know yourself; knowing that, remain.” He wishes humans to develop an inventive, intuitional, creative mind, to make themselves fit to communicate with the divine and also with self-nature.
When a gardener plants a seed that sprouts into a tender shoot, he foresees the process of metamorphosis: the sapling grows into a flower of beauty and releases its scent. His Holiness Sri Sri Sri Guru Viswasphoorthi says that, similarly, the mind of the man, through a process of metamorphosis, becomes a spiritual soul, for which the process is meditation and Dhyanaprasthan.
His Holiness Sri Sri Sri Guru Viswasphoorthi
The human intellect has its knowledge, and the divine wisdom has its proximity to the supreme soul, The Absolute. Both science and spirituality make up the perfect circle, and His Holiness Sri Sri Sri Guru Viswasphoorthi is beyond science and spirituality. It’s an invitation to the intellect of the great scientists to research and understand this. This is a very unique phenomenon taking place on Planet Earth that has never happened before and will not happen in the future too.
Guruji has practically shown it to all of us who have witnessed His divine presence. He is an embodiment of simplicity. He leads the most ordinary life with an extraordinary personality. He never stays constantly in one place. Spiritual power is his only wealth. This wealth is also being utilised for the sake of human welfare. He rarely gives darshan (comes in the presence of) to the devotees.
He manifests himself at several places at a time, through the medium process, and conducts his spiritual programmes. A ‘medium’ is a person who is under the influence of Guruji’s spiritual vibrations. At that time, the medium will neither have any awareness of external activities around him nor will he remember any activity being performed through his body by Sri Guruji. People present at those events feel that the master himself is talking and discharging spiritual activities. Throughout the process, the medium’s eyes remain shut.
A guide for all times
Guruji gives solutions related to problems in all walks of life to all kinds of individuals who have lost hope in their lives. Yes, there is a solution to any kind of problem. We find many people who talk big philosophical words, give suggestions, or speculate, but here, you get one-on-one solutions to any kind of personal, medical, spiritual, or physical problem. Hundreds of people have given testimony on YouTube. He is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. Anyone is welcome to experience it on their own.
The main concept of Guruji is Asana Pranayama Dhyan Prakriya. Time and distance are not a barrier to his spiritual travel. Once a person starts meditating, they are connected with Sri Gurujee. With arduous discipline, practising this process of ascension, as explained by Sri Guruji, one can attain divinity. He believes in practical philosophy and practises religious humanism. Guruji has penned 32 books about the mind, meditation, society, birth, rebirth, karma, and various other topics related to humankind. These books are the storehouses of the secrets of the universe and divine knowledge.
