The co-founders of Devadhara healing explain the logic of psychic energy healing, its issues, guiding principles, and opportunities
Want to perform a miracle? Lift your arm. You have performed a miracle! Billions of cells meshed together. Impossible calculations were performed. But do we appreciate the sheer genius that has gone into our simplest actions? No. We take it for granted. The truth is that the body is an amazing piece of genius. We can control some of its functions. But largely we have a profound ignorance of how it functions. And so we compromise it. Then we add insult to injury by preventing its innate mechanisms of self-healing from operating. Therefore, the first learning must be this – miracles happen when we stop standing in the way of the body.
Standing in the way
We do it all the time. For example, fever is a body response, an attempt to control infection. What is our first response to even mild fever? Pop antibiotics! An ailment is the body’s way of complaining about the way it is being driven. Do we listen? Sometime ago a heart attack patient came to us. Prior to the heart attack, he was holding two hectic jobs. Why had he come to us? Because he wanted to take on three jobs. This was not failure of the heart, but a dreadful failure of intelligence.
Everyone knows it is easier for women to have babies in a sitting up position, but in almost all hospitals the woman is kept lying down.
It is common knowledge that 30-80 per cent of all medication’s effectiveness lies not in the chemicals given but in the patient’s belief in the doctor and the act of taking medication. Yet many doctors persist in telling a patient there is no hope when the limit of their pharmacopoeia is reached. Even though it is proven beyond all doubt that the focused spirit can control all involuntary processes, modern medication will continue to use drug programmes that turn people into drug dependents. When it is clear that the spirit of the patient is critical in any recovery, we continue to treat the sufferer as passive, as a slab of meat to be drugged, injected, cut, dehumanised.
Thankfully, the attempts to change are gaining momentum. The world is coming round to the truths of the ancients – that one needs the entire chain – a living world, a caring society, an enriching diet, sound habits, an active body, a clear mind, strong character, a generous heart, a full life, a soaring spirit, and most importantly, the blessing of the cosmos.
No disease is incurable, for no body state is permanent. Until now, we have been treating the body like a granite block. Look closer and you see it is actually a seething process of continuous change. In a month, the entire stomach lining is replaced. Practically no cells exist in our bodies from a time seven years ago. So the question one must ask is not how to get a disease out, but why does it persist? Clearly we need to look at the ways the blueprint is maintained.
The secret body
To really respect the body one needs to see the physical body with non-physical eyes. Let me describe a person’s aura, which we looked at the other day. She is wrapped with a silken grey rippling. At the head, a great rush of gold lifts up. Around this are flowing stoles of iridescence. Dear God, we are magical! What the auras show us are the roots of life. Emotions are birthed, and cells stir into action. Auras let us peek into our inner being, locate deep hurt, identify where the mind is stuck, and the body imprisoned.
A technique pioneered by Dr Kirilian, in the 1950s can actually photograph the aura, or rather the lower band of the aura field. This confirms what psychics and mystics over the millennia have stated. Dr Preety K (name changed to protect identity), saw this firsthand when an aura scan for her pinpointed a possible brain tumour a year before it happened.
Since one of the easiest ways to sense the aura is to touch it, you also realise that you can heal the aura and brighten its colours, by touching someone’s aura. Simultaneously you realise that the sufferer too is not helpless, he can undermine the rat trap of disease by changing the way he thinks, feels, and acts, and suddenly, the portfolio available to the caring profession has grown.
The umbel of bodies
Until now, we have been talking as if the aura is a single blanket surrounding the physical, but it is actually multi-layered and detailed.
When someone experiences strong emotion, it creates an arc of aura energy at levels roughly 5-10 feet away with a few tendrils closer to the body. Physical activity, on the other hand, stimulates levels principally close to the body. Different activities evidently use different aura layers, but there is some communication between them. So while emotion is largely an emotive body phenomenon, it has a physical impact. Anger manifests as red in the aura and when the anger fades so does the red. However, in the case of someone who gets angry in the same way, over and over again, the red stays longer. There comes a point when even without provocation, the person’s aura is a dull red. The transition from a man who is occasionally angry to an angry man has happened. Thereafter, it is a short leap to raised BP or an ulcer.
Multi-dimensionality implies healing must be multi-pronged. Take the case above. Here one needs to soothe the ulcer in the stomach, reduce the acidity, attack the bacteria aggravating the ulcer, rebalance the bacterial culture in the gut and clear the ulcerative pattern of thought. Clearly what is called for is co-operation between allopathy and the mushrooming field of holistic healing.
Dr Shoiba, renowned gynaecologist and teen sexuality consultant says, “As almost standard practise we recommend, that ‘chronic’ patients go through some form of alternative healing like yoga.”
Radical freedom
However to seize the astounding possibilities of the inner universe, one needs to delve deeper. At inner levels, time, space, and matter become far easier to influence. Aura sensing helps go past skin, or into the future. And long-distance healing shrinks space.
However, greater freedom comes with a catch. For example, at the astral level, time and space becomes dreamlike, but equally so do the hands that try to reshape them!
‘Tarun comes from behind and looks over my shoulder, his hand resting lightly on my shoulder. When I turn to talk to him he is gone. I get up and go to the next room, where he is slumped over the table not quite well, ‘Did you get up and come to me?’ I ask, ‘No I was here,’ he says. He has been in two places!’ – Celia Cherian
This capacity to reach into deeper levels enables us to literally reshape the body. What will help or hinder the healer is the nature of the thoughts the patient has.
While normally thoughts are fleeting, intensity, repetition, and clarity give an emotive-thought form power and permanence. It also changes the form. The blob of thought or energy comes alive, getting increased self-awareness, volition and independence.
During a healing, we were giving to a patient with a strong obsessive mind, I (Celia) suddenly jerked, “Yuck! Can you see it?” I exclaimed. The man’s legs were covered with spiderish energy forms. They were thought forms that had become independent; worse still, they could leap off him to us!
Dealing with living creatures is a very different kettle of fish from handling mechanistic energies. They can hide, manipulate us, breed, bite back, and migrate. One can be infected by a neighbour’s thoughts!
To kill the tyrannosaurus, change the climate But the change in our thinking has to go even further. For it is not just about eliminating, or transforming bad thoughts – but the recognition that we breed thoughts and shape reality. Our thoughts are our babies. Once born, they will attempt to feed from us, seek to grow, cling to us.
Explicitly or implicitly, all truly effective healers, be they doctors or energy healers realise this. They literally shove patients towards a new way of living. For example, years ago Tarun’s father had a gall bladder operation; at that time he was a heavy smoker. The doctor got him to quit, an injunction that ensured a deeper respect for his health.
Now when you add the fact that thoughts can come alive to the fact that they do not sit in our skulls, you are led to the New Age truth, “We create our own reality.” “But,” you may hear a howl of protest. “I did not ask for cancer,” says one. “I certainly didn’t want multiple fractures,” adds another.
No. However, consider someone giving his body two contradictory messages (don’t we do that all the time?), one of discipline, the other ‘to break free’. What is the universe to do?
You next ask, what about the child born blind? Sometimes questions can only be answered by questions: “Do you think you came into existence at your birth? That your ancestors appeared at the point of your conception? That the earth formed yesterday?”
Call in the heavyweights
It is precisely, at this point that many cry out ‘help’, a wise thing to do. For there are four great energy presences we can reach out to, the soul, the shaktis, the racial mind, and last but not the least, guiding spirits.
Of these, the easiest, for the rational mind, are spirit guides and the soul. We were observing someone who lay dying. The energy of the physical body starts flickering, dark patches grow – inside luminous bodies lift out. As the deeper self staggers free of the physical it is greeted by guiding lights, which escort it into the light.
Yes, spirit guides care, and the soul blesses. But their idea of caring differs vastly from ours. For example, a guide placed an accident in a friend’s path to help check her erroneous progress in a self-defeating direction. In addition, even with spirit guides there are checks and balances. For the varied entities are like co-signatories to a bank account. Therefore, one can have the odd phenomenon of genuinely enlightened humans, crippled by disease. Or powerful Rasputins who are morally deplorable.
This apart, the hierarchy of the spiritual world, the bureaucracy of angels, guides, and shaktis, can become too confusing. Therefore, the next logical thing is to move higher, and meet the head honcho of the cosmos directly.
Ask God
At first, we just meet our own ideas of God, given force through our collective will. This can be pretty powerful. But it’s not the real thing. Then one manages to work past and meet the being that shaped this universe, humongously powerful too. But then again not the big daddy. Then one may go deeper, and deeper, until one encounters the presence. Aah – “I felt, bathed, washed in every cell – utterly blessed,” says Kavitha A, a seeker.
Now, some naively believe, with utter certainty that if they are touched by the Source, they will get completely well. Many of these become the poster boys for varied healing disciplines. It is awe-inspiring when it happens. When life-threatening nerve disease disappears in weeks. When kidney stones vanish, never to appear. When a cancerous tumour dissolves.
However, for many the miracles are not always permanent. To illustrate with a real example: A man with a crippled, nerve-dead hand went to a faith healing camp. The faith healer got the man to do the impossible – raise his hand. He could use it for a day, two, a week later his hand reverted to nerve-dead. Unfortunately for the man who had been receiving insurance for the disability, the insurance company stopped his compensation arguing he had been faking it.
This may puzzle some: Can disease defeat even God?
Is the fact that a nerve-dead hand can move a miracle or no? That it didn’t last merely meant it couldn’t be sustained, not that it wasn’t miraculous. God would say. “I am in your cell’s core, and in your heart. I am in your life, and in your skies. I hear you better than you hear yourself! I magnify you!” The tirade continued, “I can put a beggar on an emperor’s chair, but if he squirms on it, wouldn’t I spare him the misery?”
In a spectacular healing, a brilliant white figure made its presence visible to four of us in the room. The energy levels were stupendous. The person’s insecurity regarding a critical next step in life was completely cleared. But the asthmatic condition the person had was only marginally better. After the healing, I worried God. “Wouldn’t it have been better the other way round?” God’s answer was scalpel sharp – “I gave her force enough to make one radical change, she intuitively asked for happiness rather than an asthmatic cure. You prefer the asthma cure because it seems more miraculous, not because it’s what’s best for her.”
By giving a healing meditation, we helped a patient prevent his kidney stones from recurring. It is a decade now. And he is well. The healing meditation was the catalyst. The real secret is that he has moved past the bitterness, which used to turn into kidney stones.
A plant warmed by the sun, touched by rain, sometimes dramatically bursts into flower. Sometimes, it gets the courage to fight another day. Either way it is a miracle.
