You just cannot ignore the deep red coloured vegetable, a powerhouse of nutrients that adds taste and colour to your diet, says Naini Setalvad
The beetroot is a succulent, sweet, fleshy vegetable. Chop it, grate it, slice it, or boil it, you just can’t go wrong with it. In any form, it presents an array of health benefits. Whether as a salad, a vegetable dish, a dip or a sauce, it is great for your health, and appeases your taste buds.
Beetroot is well known for its iron content. Iron boosts the oxygen-carrying capacity of our blood, by increasing the hemoglobin levels. It is also necessary for our liver’s health. Its also ensures the purification of our blood. That is where mother’s old adage that beetroot makes your cheeks pink comes from.
The delicious vegetable is a great source of vitamin C, which remains intact when eaten uncooked. Vitamin C cleanses our body cells from within, thus lending a twinkle to the eye and a glow to the skin. It also improves hair texture.
Beetroot contains minerals such as potassium which is responsible for reducing blood pressure. In addition, it is great for cardiovascular health. It can combat certain biochemicals, which harm the arteries.

The manganese content of beetroot also lends a hand in reducing the blood pressure. It is also a constituent of the bones. Beetroot also contains zinc, which is good for women’s health and is also a mood regulator. The inner skin of the beetroot is a rich source of boron, staving off arthritis as well as other bone and joint-related problems.
Due to its sweet taste, beetroot can possibly cut down sugar cravings in the long run. Adding it to your meal might help to reduce the innate craving for something sweet after a meal. You need not worry that it will cause you to put on weight. The fibre in beetroot helps release the sugar slowly into your body, thus supplying you with steady energy over a period. The fibre in beet also makes it a great cure for constipation. Eating beetroot regularly will keep your digestive system healthy.
Simply put, eat your beet regularly. It is great for everyone’s health in general. For those who have difficulty chewing (be it babies or elderly people), include it in a boiled or paste form to ensure nourishment. You simply cannot ignore beetroot.
