LOVE IS THE DNA OF THE UNIVERSE
Guided by the divine light of her guru, Shivi Verma embraces a life lived with love which motivates and infuses her actions
Love. Isn’t it the most coveted thing in this world? No matter how flawed we are, we want to be unconditionally loved, accepted, and understood by those who matter to us. Yet, love is experienced either as a transaction or as hurt, disappointment, and betrayal by most of us. We wonder if there is any respect for love and why people either take it for granted when it is easily available or withhold it from those who deserve it the most.
But understanding the true nature of love can be difficult in this world where we are mostly grappling with self-esteem issues. Where the other is often perceived as the enemy trying to aggrandise themself by putting you down. Where we walk with invisible daggers and armours, ready to jump to our defence, lest our egos come under any real or virtual attack. Where there is so much alienation with oneself that we keep looking for love from the outside and become bitter when we do not get it.
Love, which is supposed to free us and make the ride of this world worthwhile, has become a source of pain and anguish because we are messed up from within and lack the ability to see and think clearly.
As I advance spiritually, I realise how simply the Universe is designed to help us enjoy our physical incarnations and how we have complicated things for ourselves. And its secret code is love. I had often heard my guru Dadashreeji impress upon the value of love. But it took me years to understand what he meant when he said that love was the highest attainment and the greatest sadhana. That all major paths to Self-realisation culminate in love. Recently, when I sat at his feet, I experienced the truth of his words. He spoke of liberation and emphasised that only those souls can get liberated who have transformed into complete love in their earthly incarnations.
For five days, I experienced what real love is in his Divine company. The guru encompassed all the 93 of us present at the gathering, in the fold of his boundless, selfless love. He knew what ailed the minds and hearts of his followers and filled those wounds with his tender love and compassion. Through mystical processes, unhealthy patterns that had taken root in our unconscious minds were removed and our causal bodies (incorporeal body made of thoughts and feelings) were healed with the touch of Divine Light. Yogis believe that afflictions at this level can only be healed by the Divine.
We felt purged from the core of our beings and came closer to the Divine within ourselves. It was as if someone had thrown a bright light on our life purpose. Which was to live as love.
Seen in this light, everything became crystal clear. When you become love, your each and every action gets motivated by love. My spiritual sadhanas and practices ceased to be an exercise and became a method through which I could keep my connection with the Divine alive. On waking up, I make my bed not because I like clean spaces but because I am grateful to my bed for supporting me as I sleep. I now call up people because I genuinely care for them and not because I do not want to lose connections. I register for seva (selfless service) not because it is my duty to help but because the love in my heart makes me want to serve and be there for others. As long as I am responding to life with love, my mind and its concerns are taken care of by the Divine. So I need not worry.
