The title, Designing Destiny: The Heartfulness Way by spiritual leader and author Kamlesh Patel, also known as Daaji, reminded me of a famous quote by William Shakespeare that says, “It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.” The book, which is a sequel to his first, The Heartfulness Way, ushers readers to the next stage of the journey on how heartfulness practices help one gain clarity and a purpose in life.
In the humdrum of daily life we often forget to sit, relax and examine ourselves. We try finding happiness in things like success in studies, a happy family, a healthy bank balance, good friends, and possessions, not knowing that all of these are ephemeral. In order to find the source of lasting happiness, we need to look deeper within ourselves, and heartfulness is the way that catalyses the process of introspection, helping us maintain a balance between the inner and the outer life.
Comprising 15 chapters, the book is a journal of Daaji’s heartfulness practices and Self-observations. His writing reflects his complete understanding of human life. With each turn of the page, he takes the reader closer to the purpose of designing their own destiny.
The book discusses the principles on which destiny works and offers simple heartfulness practices that can change a person’s life.
In one of the chapters, he talks about transmission, pranahuti, and explains how absorbing prana from the Infinite and then transmitting it allows the guide to flow the divine essence into the hearts of seekers, much like mother’s love which flows naturally to her children, for their growth and sustenance.
Simple yet profound tools like setting intention, being in gratitude, being natural, and eating and speaking with love (which play a major role in transforming one’s life) are comprehensively described in the book.
Designing destiny is a complex subject that has raised many questions amongst philosophers since time immemorial. But the simplicity with which Daaji has explained each and every facet of weaving your destiny, leaves readers awestruck. This book is a blessing and an essential companion in the journey of discovering our potential and fulfilling our destiny. A heartfelt read indeed.

Parashakti is the energy of the Beyond, the power and strength that lies beyond our understanding of this Universe.
In India, there are as many traditions and rituals as there are gods and goddesses, each having a story behind it. Bhanumathi Narasimhan, a meditation teacher and sister of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, in this book, beautifully describes the deeper mysteries of life and explains them through various mythological anecdotes. She mentions that such stories often defy logic and sense and that one must have faith and understand that they indicate deeper meanings.
The many familiar and rare stories of magic and mysticism described in the book are likely to resonate with readers of all generations. Parashakti merges the knowledge from the ancient Vedas and Puranas, with the contemporary teachings of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
The stories recited to us as children by our grandparents and parents begin to shine in a new light as we dive further into the book. You begin to understand the deeper meanings of each of them. The Asuras, Danavas, and Daityas in the tales are all representative of our negative emotions, which have been personified to portray the victory of good over evil.
Reading the glorified stories of The Divine Mother, we understand that everything is born of her. Various forms of The Divine Mother are symbolic and a personification of the qualities and power that are within us. Praying to these forms strengthens and evokes that same power.
Divided into six parts, this book conveys that the world is more than how we perceive it, and to begin unveiling the layers, we have to open our minds and see beyond the obvious and accept newer dimensions and views.
The magic and mysteries of the unknown fascinate us compelling us to search for this unique power everywhere. Yet, when we are in the lap of nature, the sheer beauty and simplicity of a bird chirping amazes us, and we realise that this is what magic is—it lies in the power that created all this.
This book is for everyone; it helps us decipher the meaning of our childhood stories as well as life, as it tries to fathom the greatness of the Universe, the Supreme Consciousness.
