Libra`s is an autumn mood. It harmonises well with the bright colours of fading leaves.
A keen sense of beauty is intrinsic to Libra`s influence, for Venus rules this sign as it does the Taurus.
Libra is the second of the air signs. Its influence suggests air spreading outward in search of equilibrium. Highly volatile, like air, Libra`s influence indicates no definite, calculated search, but rather a free flowing, windy-one-day, calm-the-next spirit very much like the changeable weather of autumn. Libra represents the ego in its first, tentative search for inner identity. The key to Libra`s influence is the ego`s search for inner harmony.
The Sun in Libra
If your sun is in Libra, you seek to express your authority by externalising your inner sense of harmony. This sense is so much your authority in life that if you can possibly help it, you will never act any matter until you feel inwardly right about it. Your typical response to any proposal is, “you`d better let me think about it“.
Your love of harmony expresses itself objectively in your human relationships. True friendship and true love mean much to you. Your unselfishness, especially where close friends are concerned, may give the impression that your interest is focused wholly in their interests, not in your own.
That you are so often unselfish in your relationships is due to the fact that outward harmony serves as an affirmation of your own need for inner harmony. If any conflict arises, however, between this inner need and those of your friends, you will give no more of yourself to them than would the next person, and may even seem the more callous because of the sudden change in your attitude.
Because you desire harmony at almost any price, you will tend deliberately to blind yourself to the anxieties, frustrations, and disappointments of others, preferring to soar through life at an altitude where even towering waves seem no larger than ripples.
Those who are developed enough in themselves to receive Libra`s influence on all levels of their lives will seek to harmonise the highest with lower realities.
Librans, usually, are born peacemakers and unifiers. This essential influence of their sign may, however, become blurred if the lens of ego has not yet been ground finely enough, permitting only a selfish focus on personal harmony.
The old Hindu writings state that Libra`s rays create an attraction to alchemy. This expresses the Libran`s skill at changing left to right, and up to down, in his search for a midpoint of balance. It is a talent that must be used wisely, or the end result will be inner confusion, not peace.
The rays of Libra, more so than those of most signs, are exceedingly delicate, and must be received with great sensitivity if life`s dual scales are to be brought to a state of lasting balance.
This is a point that should be heeded by everyone, Librans or not, who hope to find harmony in his own life. For Libra`s rays reach all of us in varying degrees (depending on our openness to them). If we remember that harmony is something not so much to be created as received, through our attunement with higher realities, we shall be able to find it no matter what our sun sign. Sensitive Librans may have a head start on some of us, but no one, certainly, has any monopoly on divine states of consciousness.
Practice for meditation
A good meditation for Librans, especially, would be to concentrate on the horizon line of ocean, or on any fine line dividing one thing from another, and try to penetrate into the hidden realms suggested by that line. “God,“ Paramahansa Yogananda said: “forever rests on the horizon line between all opposites.“ A straight line is one-dimensional. By penetrating that single dimension one`s consciousness passes through into the dimensionless world of the Spirit.
The superconciousness rests, similarly, on the horizon line between consciousness and subconsciousness, between wakefulness and sleep. Every night, try slipping into superconsciousness just at the borderline of slumber.
The seat of superconsciousness in the body is between the eyebrows. Ego-consciousness, that great distorter of inner harmony, is centred in the medulla oblongata at the base of the brain. (It is from here that the united sperm and ovum first begin the creation of the human body). Instead of slowing your watchful awareness to originate from the ego centre, feel it to be centred at the point between the eyebrows. Gaze upward with half-open eyes, and concentrate on the horizon line that divides the darkness above from the light below. If you concentrate deeply enough, you will plunge through that line into the ever peaceful, ever-harmonious realm of ecstasy which is the natural state of the soul.
Libra natives, by increasing relaxation and trust in the Divine power to set everything right, by acting firmly with consciousness of peace instead of trying to wrest peace from a hostile world, can groom in time to become perfect instruments of God`s peace.
In this series, in each issue we feature the sun sign of the month. it is extracted from Your Sun Sign as a Spiritual Guide by J. Donald Walters, New Age Books, Walters is a spiritual teacher. He was a disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda.
