My personal tip for time management is Sahaja Yoga. The practice of Sahaja Yoga meditation and techniques keeps me connected to the all- pervading cosmic power. Hence I am constantly in the present. Time is required to be managed only if we are detached from the present.
Connection with the Universal power makes us an instrument for living work to be done in the present. That’s the secret.
SARASWATI RAMAN, BANK OFFICER
I manage my time by saying NO a lot – to myself and to others. Since I have a visual memory, I write the tasks – in my phone, my computer and a desk calendar. Every morning and several times a day, I check my progress against this. I set time aside for the unexpected in my life – a phone call, an invite to a special event, meeting a friend. If for some reason I need to postpone a task, I do postpone. I am flexible. I am moderately well organised, and this helps me to manage my time well.

Make time for your guru, and the guru will make time disappear for you! I have discovered that if I suspend my spiritual practice even for a single day, I get stuck in my other work during the day too. On the other hand, no matter how pressing the day’s work, if I start with my daily sadhana, everything miraculously gets done! Once you surrender fully to the guru (or the Universe), things start falling in place of their own accord. When you give up the sense of doership, you don’t have to do anything to manage time or anything else in your life. All you need to do is keep the faith.

My time management secret is about balance. Balancing the part of me that likes to plan, schedule, make checklists with the other part of me that loves being spontaneous, creative, alive to what the moment will bring. If I move towards either end of this see-saw, it doesn’t work for me. I make “loose plans” in my day. I focus on completing the two things important to me. This gives me the flexibility to be open to new things the day brings. It’s a good idea to be clear about what I truly want and what’s really important to me. Once I know what I am committed to, then I remain committed to my commitment.
AJAY KALRA, TRAINER AND LIFE COACH
The most important thing that has helped me to manage time is to divide my day into five parts and assign a few hours to each part. Since we humans have five dominant personalities – that is, physical, intellectual, emotional, mental and spiritual, I decided that my day too should be such that all five are being taken care of. So I have set an hour aside each day for the body – during this time I do my exercises, running, dancing, all the physical stuff that ensures a healthy body. The intellectual and mental side of my personality are taken care of at work since I am constantly challenging myself to become more efficient, more creative and also take better decisions which will save time. My emotional side is taken care of as I am loved and pampered by my family, and I too try to bring out the best in each one who matters. For spirituality, early morning meditation works wonders for me, so for an hour I am oblivious to the world outside. Focusing on what is important for me in the long run has helped me tremendously, and on days when I am able to do justice to all these five aspects of my personality I actually feel, when I go to bed, that I have done complete justice to this day that life had gifted me.

I’ve recently started working full time for a publishing company as a production co-ordinator. And since the deadlines are crazy you need to work hard to reach deadlines and the production team needs to make sure the book looks good and that there are no errors. I have found that following what Vivekananda says about working for the sake of work helps me get my work done way ahead of time, and it gets done well. In fact, I seem to have ample time to do other work that helps my team.
