Heena Walia outlines the importance of maintaining energy hygiene and shares various methods to ensure it.
“If you wish to understand the Universe, think of energy, frequency and vibration.” —Nikola Tesla
The expanding human consciousness in modern times has increased our sensitivity to the energies that surround us. People are now aware that we are not just a physical body but have an etheric, emotional, and mental field too. We interact with people as well as the environment at the energy level. Have you ever wondered why on returning from a crowded place or event, you have sometimes experienced a heaviness in the head or random aches or pains which perhaps lasted for more than a few days? It’s possible that you picked up negative vibrations from someone’s aura or had negative thoughts or intentions projected your way, either intentionally or unintentionally.
Practitioners of healing therapies are also exposed to energy fields and their influences, both, negative and positive. A master healer of a particular healing form once shared his intriguing experience of getting physically affected due to his daily healing practices. The accumulated excessive negativity in our aura starts feeding on our life force and affects the natural ability of our body to heal. It also creates a negative field around us because of which we start attracting negative people and situations into our life, manifesting negativity at all levels. Likewise, our homes and workplace too are prone to attracting energy. Apart from the vibrations left behind by the visitors, a slow yet steady build-up of the mental and emotional energies of the occupants also contributes to the vibrational health of these places. A regular cleansing is necessary to maintain a positively energised field.
Does this mean we become overcautious with regard to meeting people or healing and counselling them? Well, the answer to this lies in becoming aware of energy hygiene just as we are aware of our physical hygiene.
The more sensitive our body is, the more prone it is to infections and diseases. The aura too is vulnerable. Hence the negativity projected by people or the environment settles into our energy system through etheric cords. Etheric cords are energy structures that connect to our energy bodies like aura and chakras, and extend out to other people, places, animals, and even objects.
We, therefore, need to practise effective cleansing to ward off or release the presence of any form of negativity in ourselves. As a practitioner of holistic healing for more than a decade, I have successfully explored and tested myriad ways to prevent and release negative influences accumulated from outside.
A few time-tested and easy-to-implement tools that one can benefit from:
Daily meditation
‘Prevention is better than cure.’ It is always better to strengthen our auric boundary to defend against any trespassing negativity. A 20-minute meditation on a regular basis energises our auric field to the extent that we become more centred and empowered at all levels—physical, mental, and emotional. A strong aura does not allow any toxic energy to build up.
Cleansing with sea salt
Salt is an easily available and a very useful tool for regular cleansing. A salt water bath for a few consecutive days effectively drives out negativity. One can also spray or mop the floor with salt water to invite success and good luck in one’s home or workplace.
From the range of salts available in the market, crystal salt is better as compared to common cooking salt, for cleansing. However, the Pink Himalayan is the best option for this purpose. Despite having a limited range and small output, Himalayan salt lamps are very popular nowadays, being highly effective and user-friendly.
Smudging
Smudging is the use of sacred smoke to induce positivity to the air present in an area. Both, benzoin (sambrani) and white sage (leaves of a plant by this name) are very useful for smudging the aura, home, and work areas. The process of smudging entails walking around in a clockwise manner to cover every nook and corner in every room and later on, opening the doors and windows to allow the negative energy to move out, leaving behind only the good energy. It is advisable to do smudging in the evening to release the day-long accumulated negativity.
Crystals
Crystals carry very fine and high vibrations which promote physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Certain crystals like citrine and amethyst, when energised and placed at home and in business establishments, are very effective in lifting the vibration and attracting success and prosperity for the owners. Crystals like selenite, black tourmaline and tiger eye, when worn on the self or energised and kept at an establishment, are very effective in warding off negative energy and the evil eye. Hematite is buried in the ground during the construction of a building for protection and grounding. Clusters of crystals, especially clear quartz, can be placed at home to promote harmony and togetherness amongst family members.
Vastu and Feng Shui
The tenets of vastu and Feng Shui are used to introduce balance and harmony to an environment. Vastu shastra is the Indian ‘science of architecture’ and its designs integrate architecture with nature. The principles of Feng Shui are based on the Chinese philosophical system, that believes in living harmoniously with nature by balancing the ‘Yin and Yang’ energies.
While an improper arrangement can be dysfunctional, a simple alignment with the elements of air, water, fire, earth, and metal creates harmony, working in sync to support us.
De-cluttering
De-cluttering is another important aspect of having a healthy energy field around us. De-cluttering the mind is as important as de-cluttering the physical space. Thoughts that demotivate or destabilise should be cast away, just like unused or waste items in our house that no longer serve any purpose, because they stagnate and drain energy. A new beginning can only be had in a clear space that is uncluttered and unlittered.
Sound vibrations
Sacred sounds have energy and healing power. Holy chants, hymns, and bells create a high energy environment. Sanskrit shlokas and Tibetan singing bowls have become very popular in recent times.
A strong intention to experience life free of unwanted energies and a diligent habit of following the above simple, yet effective procedures can be very beneficial. Let’s create a positive environment for our personal growth and subsequently, the success of our family, community, and the world. Every change we make has a domino effect as it touches the lives of many people around us.
