Hail the Gandhian
I read with great interest Jamuna Rangachari’s article on Dr Anil Rajvanshi, Walking in Gandhi’s footsteps, published in the April 2018 issue of Life Positive magazine. Dr Rajvanshi, as the director of NARI in Phaltan, has initiated many sustainable rural development programs through the application of science and technology. He is a true follower of Mahatma Gandhi, apparent in the credo of ‘simple living and high thinking’ that he practices in his life. It would do us good to follow his example to rise above the consumerist society in which we are living today. I will be happy to meet Dr Rajvanshi someday to further discuss this important matter.

Guiding light
I am an 80-year old, living a passive but mentally active life. I read a lot of good books and magazines like Life Positive and pursue many creative activities. I was pleased to read about various asanas to relieve back pain in Malvika Agarwal’s article Get ‘back’ in action published in the March 2018 issue of Life Positive. As a senior adult, I generally have trouble with my back, knees, digestive system (chronic constipation particularly), and anxiety and depression. I request the writer to address the remaining three issues too for the benefit of the readers.

Commendable approach
Apropos of the cover article, Sex is sacred, by Anu Mehta, published in the March 2018 issue of Life Positive, in India—the land of Kamasutra—the word ‘sex’ is a taboo, and a dialogue about it is forbidden between parents and children. At least, daughters are educated about personal hygiene indirectly when they attain puberty. But sons are never approached in their adolescent years by fathers for a proper discussion. Boys learn about sex and reproduction through their equally misinformed and misguided peers, and media. This misinformation shapes their sexual life in a wrong way. The majority of them view it only as a tool for physical pleasure, without understanding the sacredness of sex. It is high time that parents as well as teachers and social media channels educate the young generation about sex in a responsible manner. I appreciate the way this topic was taken up in Life Positive magazine.

Fabulous Feb edition
I found the February 2018 issue of Life Positive magazine quite interesting. Shivi Verma’s interview with Shri Aditya Ahluwalia, The spiritual entrepreneur, gave an insight into his inspiring life. It was heartening to know that influenced by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, he moved from religion towards spirituality. Melissa Nazareth’s article on Kuntal A Joisher, The vegan mountaineer, gave me goosebumps. The description of the moment when, surrounded by nature, realisation dawns on him, making him aware of his every breath and heartbeat, was beautiful and awe-inspiring. Reading this article, I wondered what horrors of the dairy, poultry, and leather industry his roommate at the University in Los Angeles might have exposed him to, which made him change his ‘cruel’ lifestyle. I wish to read similar articles in the magazine. Congratulations to Neha Gupta for her article How to have a difficult conversation, which I found very useful and relevant. Needless to say, all the columns by Suma Varughese make for an interesting read.

I was lucky to get a copy of the prestigious Life Positive magazine during a visit to the National Yoga Seminar at the Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi. The beautiful look of its February 2018 issue compelled me to go through the entire magazine, and I was really impressed by its rich contents. Shivi Verma’s article The spiritual entrepreneur, tracing the life journey of the founder of the magazine, Mr Aditya Ahluwalia, was very interesting. I was enamoured by his ability to sustain hardships yet remain cool. Being a mountaineer and environmentalist myself, I could not stop myself from reading Melissa Nazareth’s article The vegan mountaineer at one go. I found a lot of similarities between myself and Mr Kuntal A Joisher. The magazine, besides sharing beautiful articles on attaining happiness in life, also contains very informative advertisements.

Educative article
I highly appreciate the article Protect your Aura by Heena Walia, published in the February 2018 issue of Life Positive magazine. The writer has quite adroitly explained how many fields of negative energies affect us, without us having an inkling about them. She has suggested some good, practical ways of reducing the effect of these energies. I found this article to be quite educative and informative.
