Let the Mud Settle is a very wise and lovely book authored by Sri Anish, in which he has crystallised the true meaning of life as simplicity, wonder, beauty, and an expression of all-encompassing love.
The author talks about the awakenings he had in his life through body and mind experiments, like yoga, and mindfulness. He begins by explaining the essence of one’s being, which lies in the interconnected matrix of desires, food, body, mind, emotions, and breath, and is yet beyond all of it. He dedicates a full chapter to food and eating habits: how we eat, what we eat, why we eat, and what time we must eat. Every now and then, he dwells on the importance of connecting deeply and experiencing the presence of the five elements of nature, for they carry huge intelligence within them to learn from.
Time and again, Sri Anish emphasises on the bliss of the transcendental state one experiences through meditation and, hence, the importance of practising it regularly. He says that meditation could be a way of life if one combines every action with purity, mindfulness, and moment-to-moment breath awareness. His take on parenting, work, the art of listening, and happiness is impactful. One can learn to be conscious and aware, especially around children.
Sri Anish is inspired by the love that Rumi, Nanak, Kabir, Jesus, and Krishna spoke of. He mentions all the barriers that we build against love and how shedding them can make us realise that all there ever is, was, and will be, is love.
In between, Anishji shares a note on relationships and a heartfelt one to all mothers. The latter is extremely vibrant and full of love, inciting a sense of responsibility, sensitivity, and poetry.
The choice of words used by Anishji is extremely gentle, simple, energetically pacifying, and evokes a sense of peace. This book is like a poignant tale with a whiff of truth and an acute awareness of oneself. I can say this with immense confidence that anyone who reads this book and applies the knowledge offered by Sri Anish can have a life-transforming experience. He very aptly summarises the purpose of life—to make all of us more loving, joyful, empathetic, creative, wise, self-aware, and evolved beings. This book perfectly lives up to its title as one can feel a certain lightness towards the end of the book when one’s mental mud subsides so naturally while experiencing profound silence between the words.
