What is Neuro Linguistic Programming

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)

What is Neuro-linguistic programming?

The full form of NLP is Neuro-linguistic programming. This is a radical approach to improve one's well-being by virtue of enhancing one's communication and embarking on a journey of personal development.

This therapy has been created by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in California, the United States in the 1970s. The founders claim that there is a clear connection between the neurological processes ("neuro"), language ("linguistic") and behavioral patterns learned through experience ("programming"). The interesting inference is that these behavioral patterns can be changed to achieve specific goals in life. This simply is the true essence of what is NLP

In layman's terms, what is NLP and what are its benefits?

Basically, the skills of exceptional people can be "modeled" using NLP methodology. Then those skills can be acquired and adopted by anyone. So assume that you wish to become an entrepreneur. What you basically need to do is pick out one super successful entrepreneur (say bill gates), and just study his behavior and mannerisms. And then incorporate those traits into your daily life. For example, if Bill Gates speaks in a particular way or uses certain hand gestures, you need to simply emulate the same and train yourself to use the same hand gestures.

A session generally consists of the following:-

1. The therapist/coach and the client spend some time discussing the areas which need to be addressed in the session

2. Once the focus areas are clear, the therapist goes to work and guides the client on how to get to the root cause of the particular behavioral therapy

3. Either via counseling or some scientific games, the therapist helps the client to allow his/her unconscious mind to make the changes that are necessary to get desired behavior changes results

Benefits of NLP therapy

NLP therapy has been found to effectively treat problems like phobias, depression, habit disorders, psychosomatic illnesses, myopia, allergy, common cold, and learning disorders. Results have at times been witnessed in a single session.
