By Shameem Akthar May 2013 Pradeep Krishnan interviews Master Minood, a Kerala-based spiritual master for pointers on how to achieve inner awakening Meeting spiritual masters helps bring in more clarity and understanding to one’s own spiritual quest. A master’s words delve deep into the listener’s heart, and help to speed up his inner journey. My recent meeting with Master Minood, a modern-day mystic and spiritual guru, based in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, proved that those we meet could change us, sometimes so profoundly that we are not the same afterwards. The profound wisdom imparted by him has put me at ease with existence. At his home, his simple, unassuming, affectionate, and loving nature made me completely relaxed instantly. I felt as if I was sitting with one of my family members. I was taken aback by the simplicity and serenity of the man, who guides people into inner awakening through breath meditation. Master Minood was born in 1965, and his father was his first spiritual guru. The call to plunge deeply into spirituality came to him in the year 1996, while he was working with NABARD. After meeting several gurus, in the year 2007, he snapped ties with the corporate world, and started practicing a life of complete surrender to intuition. In 2009, he established the Temple of Inner Wisdom, with the purpose of awakening souls. He lives in Thiruvananthapuram with his wife and daughter. Excerpts from the interview: Is there any deeper meaning to human life? What is the meaning and purpose of human life? The meaning and purpose of human life is to realize oneself as a Buddha, a Christ, a Krishna, and a Mahavira, a perfect human being, a living being who emits the soul power, the light of the soul, and who spreads that light all around. It is to evolve through lifetimes, to realize that one is essentially a soul rather than a body, mind, or intellect complex. When a soul starts its journey in the physical plane, initially the focus will only be on maintaining the body, acquiring food, money, and leading a life of power, pleasures, enticed by the glitter and glamour of the world. As the soul advances spiritually over time, the understanding that one is a soul inside a human body comes. How can one find one’s soul purpose? Is finding the soul purpose a happening or can one acquire it? At one level, it will happen naturally, and at another level, the soul will put in the efforts to move forward. As the soul evolves, a point will come when one’s purpose will be automatically revealed. In others, the soul itself will put in the effort to speed up the journey. According to the law of constant progression, whatever one does in the physical world ultimately propels the soul to move forward to a higher plane. The law of hastening of progression advocates that one’s progress can be speeded up with efforts. Meditation, reading spiritual books, meeting gurus, and satsangs, will give the impetus for the soul to evolve faster. In our day-to-day life, encounter with the ‘other’ is always a problem. How does one cope with the ‘other’? Master Minood discoursing at a conference The spiritual journey is the journey of the self, taken by the self for the sake of the self. A soul comes by itself and the soul will evolve into a perfected human being where it can exist by itself. Spiritual journey is all about moving into a plane where one can harmoniously co-exist with the ‘other’ without the need for the ‘other.’ In the physical world, a life of aloneness will come only when one reaches the realization level. Unless one meets the ‘other,’ and learns from different outpouring of emotions and physicality, one cannot reach that level. Therefore, every ‘other’ ,who comes into one’s life, is actually a teacher, teaching something about life. See how beautiful the arrangement is. Every person in the world is a teacher teaching other teachers. When someone angrily shouts at you, he is in fact teaching you about anger or something else. If you are on a deep inner journey, you will reflect on what happened. If you are not on the spiritual path, you react immediately, and there will be fights. In any case, you evolve. You are transformed. Ultimately, after many lifetimes you become a Buddha. What is the way to avoid problems? When one is in the physical plane, one will definitely have problems and challenges. Every happening in the world helps the person involved to evolve in consciousness. The ‘problem’ is encountered by the personality, the body-mind-intellect organism, not by the soul. By meditation, by observing the prana – life force – the soul will be able to express itself through the physical reality more blissfully. As the inner energy level of such a person shifts, his reaction towards the world will automatically change. Also, understand that your world is a mirror, a mirror that precisely reflects what is in front of it, you. Any person, event, and situation that one encounters is part of the world one has created. Every person, event, and situation is telling you something about you, and not about them. What is enlightenment orrealization? There is no specific point, which can be called as enlightenment point. Every person goes through ‘enlightening’ moments in his/her life. When one realizes that he is not the body-mind-intellect complex, but a soul, living in the world to experience life, that would be the enlightening moment for him. A person who operates completely in that ‘Bodh mandala’ – that consciousness – is an enlightened one. A soul, which understands itself as pure consciousness and not as a body-mind-intellect complex, is an enlightened soul. As people are at different levels of consciousness, to reach this stage one has to pass through different levels of learning and experience. What is your concept of God? God is a power of which we are all a part, a pure consciousness. I will not say a higher power, that power is within me also. To understand God we need to understand our own self. So when you understand your self, you understand God. To every person God means something different, based on his own level of growth. A power that has manifested, that operates everywhere. One’s understanding of God depends on one’s own evolution of consciousness. Is the happening of the Universe accidental? My understanding is that the power that we call God, that consciousness, wanted to express and experience itself. The creation cannot be accidental, as there are no ‘accidents’ in the Universe. Creation is a mystery, an extremely interesting mystery. You advocate a life of surrender and intuition. How does one lead such a life? One needs to understand what surrender means. In spite of our meticulous planning, life may not go the planned way. We try our best to control everything in life. The more we try to control, the more things slip from our hands. A life in surrender means a life that realizes that nothing is in our control, and accepts everything as it is. Children are completely surrendered to life, and that is why they are always in bliss. So a life of surrender is a life of complete trust in the Universe or existence. Does that mean we should not react to persons or situations? A life in surrender means following the intuitive messages that one gets from the Universe, which come from a higher plane. Since our mind is filled with thoughts, we are not able to differentiate between thought and intuition. Life in surrender means a life based on complete trust and obedience to the intuitive messages, which will tell one what to do, when to react, and how to respond. To follow the intuitive messages, thoughts have to be eliminated through meditation. Life in surrender means a life based on complete trust and obedience to the intuitive messages, which will tell one what to do, when to react, and how to respond. Your web describes you as a spiritual scientist. Could you please elaborate? All these years, I have been experimenting with my own life. Several gurus led me to meditation and my life has been one of moving into a state of knowingness. To know about anything one has to understand it, and to understand one has to learn about it. One cannot learn about life without experiencing it. Experiential knowledge alone will take one to knowingness. That is why I am a spiritual scientist. How does one end human suffering? Pradeep Krishnan is a seeker basedin Thiruvanathpuram, Kerala. He isa student of consciousness, deeplyattracted to the teachings of SriRamana Maharshi and Sri NisargadattaMaharaj. Get enlightened. One experiences happiness, pleasure, suffering, pain, and sorrow, in the mind. Mind is an apparatus that processes things from outside, and can perceive only through the five sense organs. If the mind is taken care of, if it is set right by using it properly, one will grow beyond the mind, and then one will be able to go beyond happiness and suffering. This can be achieved by meditation. When the mind is within one’s fold, the being will not be affected by outside events and situations. What should be one’s ideal relationship with his guru? Guru is a guide who eliminates darkness. His purpose is to emit light and show you the path. Your relation with the guru must be to absorb as much as the guru gives. Follow what he asks you to do and go beyond the guru. Complete surrender to the guru is essential, as he is the messenger of the Universe. Learn surrender from the guru and surrender to the Universe through the guru. What is your message to our readers? Spiritual journey is a journey inward so all should find time to meditate on the breath. Without taking the inner journey, one can never realise one
