With a mission of promoting yoga in a scientific way and finding strong linkages between classical yoga, medical science, therapeutic yoga and yoga for community, the 4th International Yoga Seminar was organised in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, on January 11, 2014. Comprising a grand gathering of yogis, spiritual leaders and teachers, the event was organised by Ujjain Yoglife Society International in collaboration with Yoga Institute Mumbai, Mahakaleshwar Temple Management, and Dainik Bhaskar group.
The opening ceremony witnessed dignitaries from 22 countries and more than 600 participants from different states of India. The ceremony began with singing the hymn of Lord Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlingam. The luminaries from the field of yoga, medical science and spiritual world, gracing the occasion included Padmabhushan Dr. B M Hegde (cardiologist and former vice chancellor Manipal University), Padma Shri D R Kaarthikeyan (former director CBI and President, Life Positive magazine), among others. During the ceremony Ms. Ganna Smirnova from Ukraine mesmerised the audience with her wonderful Bharata natyam dance performance. 12 scientific papers as well as a movie on the history of yoga by Deepika and Ram Kothari were presented at the event. Renowned sitar player Ms. Ruqiya Khan rendered a melodious sitar recital, and Khushbu Panchal enthralled the audience with her Kathak dance.
The Ujjain YogLife Society also honoured Mr. D R Karthikeyan, Dr. B M Hegde, H H Jagadguru Swami Amrit Suryanand Ji and Yogi Shri Amrit Desai for bringing about noteworthy changes in the society.
The second day of the seminar started with surya namaskar and meditation around the Koti Teerth Kund situated in the Mahakaleshwar temple. The delegates paid homage to Lord Mahakaleshwar and also paid tribute to Swami Vivekanand on his 150th birth anniversary. The second day was dedicated to various practical yoga workshops and presentation of eight scholarly papers. Mr Kaarthikeyan, as the chief guest of the valedictory ceremony, gave an insightful speech on the nature of the soul. During the event some of the participants displayed their expertise in performing difficult yogasanas.
