Empowering women and children
Kshama R Kaushik from Ajmer is an extraordinary woman who has dedicated her life to all those who need empathy and handholding. Let us know more about her to get inspired ourselves. Her story as shared with Jamuna Rangachari is given below.
My inspiration has always been rooted in the core values and legacy of RMKM—compassion, inclusion, and service to the most marginalized. The founder secretary, the late Mr. Sagar Mal Kaushik, remains the prime inspiration for my work. Witnessing Rajasthan Mahila Kalyan Mandal transform the lives of children with special needs, women, and families across Rajasthan reinforces my belief in community‑based rehabilitation and inclusive development. My academic background in Social Work and field experience further strengthens my commitment to this sector. I am also grateful for the unconditional support from my family—my kids and husband, whose encouragement fuels my dedication.
My journey has been shaped by the constant encouragement of my family, the guidance of my seniors and colleagues, and the trust of the children and families I serve. The collaborative environment at RMKM has been a major source of strength, helping me learn, grow, and perform with confidence.
Working with vulnerable communities often brings challenges such as resource limitations, social stigma, and emotional pressure. I learned to navigate these by maintaining strong coordination, strengthening community awareness, improving documentation, and relying on teamwork. Patience, empathy, and a solution-oriented mindset helped me overcome barriers and maintain quality in my work.
The moments that stay with me are those where real change becomes visible—when a child makes developmental progress, when a hesitant family gains hope, when a young person becomes employable, or when a community becomes more accepting. Each such moment reassures me that our efforts create long-term impact. She envisions a society where:
-
Children with special needs receive equal opportunities, respect, and access to inclusive education, therapy, and rehabilitation.
-
Women and marginalized families gain confidence, skills, and economic independence.
-
Community-based systems grow stronger through awareness, participation, and sustained support.
She would like others to know that social change is a gradual process, built on small consistent efforts. Inclusion is a right, not charity. With compassion, teamwork, and commitment, we can transform challenges into opportunities. Anyone with sincerity and purpose can contribute to society, regardless of their background.
When asked if she is happy with the choices she has made, she avers I am deeply fulfilled with the path I have chosen. Working in the social sector, especially with Rajasthan Mahila Kalyan Mandal aligns with my purpose and values.

While wishing her all the best, I hope she inspires many more to follow her path.
