An amazing Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) Practitioner, Mindset and Resilience Coach
Many people just give up on life when faced with a challenge. Some like Nilima Pradhan become role models. Her story as shared with Jamuna Rangacharii is given below.
I vividly remember June 2015 as that was the month of the year when my life drastically changed. I was 34 years old then.
I’ve always been an outgoing, chatty person, full of life. I work in an IT Company, and one ordinary morning at work, something strange happened. While I spoke, I felt my words slurring. It felt bizarre. My colleagues teased me, not realising something was off.
Days passed, and the symptoms didn’t subside. I visited a general physician who prescribed some medication, but nothing changed. Weeks went by with no improvement. That’s when a concerned friend urged me to consult a neurologist.
With no idea what was ahead, I booked an appointment at Fortis Hospital, Gurgaon. The doctor examined me carefully and asked me to get an MRI. A few days later, I returned with the report. What happened next shook me to the core.
The doctor looked at the scan, then at me, and gently explained the diagnosis. But to me, his words sounded like a foreign language. I couldn’t grasp what he was saying—it felt like the ground had slipped beneath my feet. He mentioned I had Multiple Sclerosis—a rare, chronic disease of the central nervous system, which had no cure.
He recommended immediate hospitalization. I was stunned. I had just come in for a follow-up, and now I was being asked to get admitted. I wasn’t mentally prepared. Still, I got hospitalized and was started on high-dose steroids—three bottles for three days. Thankfully, my speech returned. I could talk again.
However, deep within, I felt my whole life had changed.
My deepest inspiration has always come from people who rise — not because they had to, but because they chose to. I found hope in ordinary individuals living extraordinary lives despite chronic illnesses. But perhaps the most powerful inspiration came from within — from the version of myself I hadn’t yet met — the one who refused to give up.
My family, without a doubt, formed my emotional anchor. In particular, my mother, who became my silent strength. She never tried to "fix" things for me — instead, she simply stood by my side. I also found support in unexpected places — strangers who became friends, doctors who were more human than clinical, and the MS community, who reminded me that I wasn’t alone. And most importantly, my friends who stood by me and had my back and supported me like a solid rock.
The physical challenges were just the outer coating — the real storm was internal. I struggled with grief for the life I once had, anxiety about the future, and frustration at my body’s betrayal.
Coming to terms with a critical diagnosis and adapting to new limitations can be incredibly challenging. It’s natural to ask “Why me?” over and over again. Sometimes, things happen without explanation, and we may never know why.
One of the most memorable moments was when I finished writing and published my book, “Multiple Sclerosis: A Blessing in Disguise.” I poured my entire soul into those pages. This memoir is a piece of my soul—woven with pain, strength, and hope. Whatever I have shared is deeply personal to me and is incredibly close to my heart.
My vision is to create a safe space for people who are suffering from chronic conditions. I aspire to make them feel seen, supported, and empowered. I have a Through my coaching, writing, and YouTube channel @ExploringMS, I aim to inspire resilience, emotional healing, and mindset shifts. I believe everyone deserves a second chance — not just at life, but at living fully.
Please know: you are not your diagnosis. Focus on possibilities.
With every cell in my body — yes. This path may not have been my choice initially, but I have made it my own. Today, I wake up with a purpose. I write, I speak, and I live. Not just despite MS, but because of it.
